About

Nails in Greece

We are Nails in Greece — an independent magazine founded in Athens by Elena and Nikos.

We began with very little: a borrowed printer, a small workspace, long evenings, and a clear idea of what we wanted to create. We felt that too much modern publishing had become predictable — over-managed, overly commercial, and driven by visibility rather than substance. We wanted to make something slower, more thoughtful, and more tactile. A magazine built with care, curiosity, and personality.

From our first issue, we chose to publish in English. As a magazine born in Greece, this was important to us. We wanted our work to remain connected to the wider European and international creative conversation. We wanted a reader in London, Berlin, Milan or Tokyo to open our pages and feel immediately included. Greece is our home, but our outlook has always been outward-facing.

We care deeply about print as an object. Colour, paper, rhythm, proportion, typography, texture, finishing, and detail all matter to us. We admire fresh tones, unexpected combinations, and production techniques that give each issue character. We believe slight imperfections often reveal the human hand — and that is something worth preserving.

We have never been motivated mainly by money or publicity. Growth for its own sake has never interested us. We prefer independence, selective distribution, meaningful collaborations, and readers who discover us naturally. Some copies travel through shops, some through friends, some through studios and creative spaces, always by genuine interest rather than noise.

Over time, what started with two people became a trusted collective of twelve. Writers, editors, photographers, designers, printers, stylists, and creative contributors have joined us gradually, each bringing skill, taste, and perspective. Some are based in Greece, others move between cities, but our centre remains here.

Today, we are twelve people around one long table — reviewing proofs, discussing layouts, testing colours, refining ideas, and continuing the same spirit we began with.

We are still independent.
We are still curious.
We are still making each issue with intention.
